Leaky joints around windows can increase heat loss and cause unpleasant drafts. In connection with renovations, the correct sealing of window moldings can save the home owner large expenses and reduce the risk of drafts considerably.
A two-stage joint gives the most durable result and at the same time optimizes the moisture-technical conditions around the windows. When replacing internal joints, it is recommended to use a diffusion-proof joint between the window molding and the frame. It prevents the heat from escaping. If you replace the joints on the outside, however, it is important that you finish with a diffusion-open solution – e.g. joint tape or mortar joint, which prevents moisture problems.
