Just like other certifications, the Nordic Ecolabel also works with the distribution of points based on which solutions are chosen. If a building is to be Swan Ecolabelled, it requires achieving at least 17 out of 44 possible points.
How do you get this?
The system is built simply. By choosing the right building materials, you can get up to 10 points. If you choose to build with materials that have been marked with the Nordic Ecolabel or the EU Ecolabel, you are already more than halfway there.
An easy shortcut to points
The building materials are divided into specific product categories (chemical products, windows & doors, indoor paint & varnish, outdoor paint & varnish, acoustic ceilings, etc.) and you can easily earn points. Rune Ludvigsen, Country Manager at Dana Lim Norway, explains:
– If at least 10% of the product requirements in the relevant category are covered by eco-labelled products, you get 1 point. If at least 50% of the product requirements in the relevant category are covered by eco-labelled products, you get 3 points.
By choosing at least 50% eco-labelled building materials in three categories, as well as at least 10% eco-labelled building materials in a fourth category, you achieve a maximum of 10 points for building materials.
